I was 9 years old back in 1990, and I don't think I would have come across Too $hort on my own. It was definitely my neighbor who was much older than me at the time who awoke me to the trials and tribulations coming out of the West coast gangster rap movement. We didn't grow up in the safest of neighborhoods. I got jumped for my reebok pumps and was left barefoot on my way home from school one day. Not saying I can relate, I'm just saying.
