THE 3BALL SOUND FROM MTY TO VANCOUVER

What's up with 3ball, wtf is it, and what does it mean? 3ball (tree-val, trival) has been shaking up Mexican dance clubs with very local and humble beginnings since the early 2000's. Only recently has the sound been catching on with dj's making a serious impression on a global level with MTY (city of Monterrey) crew Erick Rincon, DJ Otto, Sheeqo Beat, legend Toy Selectah and up-and coming Javier Estrada all currently dominating the sound. This is Mexican dance music at it's fucking zenith taking elements of pre-Hispanic (pre-colonial) influences of Aztec to Andean rhythms, using heavy organic, percussions, as well as Cumbia basslines and elements of many, many other Latin and pop sounds all topped off with Mexican sythn crazyness.

This sudden explosion of dance beats coming out of Mexico really comes out of of the working class being able to purchase and own a computer plus the curiosity of horny teenagers wanting to meet girls on facebook and make revolutionary dance music. It goes without saying that Mexico is not one of the richest countries in the world but it certainly makes up for that with its deep and eccentric culture. Most of these tunes coming out of MTY were busted out using software like frooty-loops and not much else. Erick Rincon being the youngest at 17 and Otto, Sheeqo at 18 years of age are perfectly capable at maximazing the hell out of their humble gear. Their production value and mix-downs are flawless and without an arsenal of top-of the line gear they still sound better and more genuine than dudes with tonnes of cash for studio equipment and years of experience.

Most recently the MTY boys were flown all the way from sunny, dry MTY to cold-ass Germany for a 3ball throw-down on Man FM. Dropping some 3ball heat along side Toy Selectah. Download and hustle this mix, this is literally the global inception.

Previously to the mix on Man FM, the only releases by the MTY crew have been distributed for free via file sharing sites and blogs like GB, Mad Decent, Peligrosa and others, this EP was released a while back but is still fresh as the day it was first dropped. This is the current Trival sound, you can't mess with this! Make sure to download the ep 3BALL MTY

This vid comes via VBS.TV (Vice Magazine) when they recently flew down to MTY to check out the 3ball scene. There's a brief interview with Erick Rincon, plus an interesting fashion statement by a few, yet dedicated vatos in pointy boots! It'll make you go 'wtf?' but I don't think the trend of the pointy boots will catch on past the borders of Nuevo Leon, Monterrey.

Javier Estrada is part Mexican, part music Shaman and is well versed in Trival and the sounds that shape it. This tune by Estrada exposes a massive pre-hispanic influence with that contemporary 3ball stomp. This track is taken from Ritmos del Mundo vol 2. presesented by Mad Decent, download the full EP of original track by Javier Estradahere.

Currently Javier has been working on Moombahton, Cumbia even native American dubstep as well as mashing 3ball, Guarachero with dubstep. He's mad as he is taleneted. Song title translates to 'Crazy Coyote', which is a remix of a Nortec song which is essentially Mexican country music. This shit is real. Expect more from Estrada, more news soon.

But it doesn't just stop in MTY, the sounds cross into many other states in Mexico and accross the border in to the southern US with Chicanos getting down with the sound and even Vancouver is getting in on the 3ball. It's a Mexican 3ball INVASION. Here is a glimpse into what's hot in the sound from Mexico to NYC to Vancouver. Vamos!!!

Last but definitely not least out of rainy Vancouver,  Expendable Youth. Appearently when they're not making  electro they're making what would respectfully heat up a 3ball party. We'll wait and see what the MTY boys have to say.  PALABRA!

Very cool post Carlos. I would add this video, which most people in the scene has probably watched but since the post is a musical introduction to 3bal, this would be a visual one, and it includes the interview "el dios del 3ball" Erick Rincón ,
keep posting cool stuff Carlos!!! Mexico y Canada <3
